Bangladesh has scored 62 out of 100 in the ICT Development Index, positioning it behind several peer economies in digital progress, according to the International Telecommunication Union.
The global average score stands at 74.8, while lower-middle-income countries average 64.8, higher than Bangladesh's score.
In this index, Bangladesh ranks lower than Myanmar, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Vietnam, and Bhutan, with only Pakistan slightly trailing behind among neighbouring countries.
Despite performing well in mobile network coverage (3G and 4G) and exceeding the average for lower-middle-income countries in mobile internet subscriptions, Bangladesh continues to lag in overall regional ICT advancements.
Internet usage among individuals stands at 38.9%, with 38.1% of households having internet access, figures unchanged from previous assessments, indicating stagnant growth in internet adoption in Bangladesh.
