Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Sunday felt need to have a trade agreement between Bangladesh and Korea for further accelerating the bi-lateral trade and investment.
"That's why the possibilities of a free trade agreement can be examined. Bangladesh is interested to increase the trade and investment with Korea", Minister added.
Tipu Munshi made the remarks while exchanging views with the Korean Ambassador in Dhaka, Lee Jang-keun, as latter paid a call on Minister at his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
"Korea is a friend of Bangladesh and also a very import business partner. Two countries maintain commercial and economic relations for quite a long period of time. Korea has investment in RMG, Electronic goods and in some sectors as a good number of Korean companies are working here in Bangladesh. We are exporting RMG products to Korea and there have scope to increase this export", Minister added.
While addressing, Lee Jang said Bangladesh has made unprecedented developed in the last 10 years. Development here is now clearly visible, the trade relations of Korea with Bangladesh is at the peak right now. "Bangladesh has faced the Covid-19 situation successfully, Korea is planning to manufacture car in Bangladesh. Korea has been increasing trade across the globe, and it considers Bangladesh as very important place to increase trade", Lee added.
This is to mention that Bangladesh has exported goods worth $ 398.66 million in the FY 2020-2021 while during the same period Bangladesh has imported goods worth $ 1,126.60 million. Additional Secretary (Export), Md. Hafizur Rahman, Additional Secretary (FTA) Nur Md. Mahbubul Haque of the Ministry of Commerce, First Secretary of Bangladesh Embassy in Korea, Yangmic Seo were also present on the occasion.
