Bangladesh-India to maintain the existing harmony to be keep intact, said the Minister of Agriculture Dr Md Abdur Razzaque. He said that the defeated and anti-independence forces in the war of liberation are still active and involved in conspiracy to destroy Bangladesh-India harmony. Everyone must be united and vigilant against them.
The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a special general meeting of the Bangladesh-India Harmony Council at the Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Auditorium of the National Press Club in the capital on Saturday.
The Minister said Bangladesh-India harmony is very important. The people of this country have given blood for the independence of Bangladesh and so have many people of India. On the other hand, it is essential for developing good relations with India as a neighboring country for various reasons including language, culture, geography and economy. Bangladesh has good relations with other countries, but for these reasons, India is given top priority in terms of relations. This relationship and harmony must be further strengthened and strengthened; it must be kept intact for life.
The Agriculture Minister said Bangladesh is a democratic country where there is a government elected by the people. The current government have come to power through elections and are running the country on the basis of the constitution. Government have not violated anything of humanity. No opposition leader or activist including BNP has been extra judicially killed in the country. War criminals have been hanged and jailed in accordance with the law through the Supreme Court, he added.
“A small country like Bangladesh has so many TVs, magazines and online magazines that no other country in the world has. All that is said in the news all day. There is freedom of speech. I do not understand where human rights are being violated,” he added.
Former Ambassador Neem Chandra Bhowmik, eminent journalist Basudeb Dhar and leaders of different levels of the organization spoke under the chairmanship of Professor Md Fazle Ali, Convener of Bangladesh-India Harmony Council.
In the general meeting, Prof. Md. Fazle Ali was elected as the chairperson, eminent journalist Basudeb Dhar was elected as the executive chairperson and Mumtaz Chowdhury was elected as the secretary general.
