Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Friday said the government has approached everywhere to get the Covid-19 vaccine once developed.

“We will bring it from wherever we get for the welfare of our people,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a discussion on Bangabandhu at the National Press Club.

He said following the instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the foreign ministry is working on getting access to the potential Covid vaccines.

The United States, UK, China, Russia and India are among the countries at the forefront of the Covid-19 vaccine development.

Bangladesh has allowed China’s Sinovac to conduct their phase-3 trial in the country.

Indian external affairs secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, while visiting Dhaka last month, said New Delhi would make its potential Covid-19 vaccine available for Bangladesh on priority basis once it was produced in partnership with its developer Oxford University.

Bangladesh also wrote a letter to the Russian authority to get access to its Covid vaccine.

The government also contributed an EU fund to get any potential vaccine of the coronavirus.

Bangladesh confirmed 334,762 cases of Covid-19 as of Friday with 4,668 deaths and 236,024 recoveries.
