Bangladesh Under-21 Women’s Hockey Team performed brilliantly to finish the Junior AHF Cup as runners up.
Women’s U-21 team achieved 15 points from six matches while they won five encounters.
In their last match, Bangladesh defeated the host Singapore 7-1 on Sunday.
Orpita Pal demonstrated outstanding her excellent skills to score 10 goals when the penalty corner specialist converted nine from penalty corners and she was the second-highest goal-scorer of the competition following Thailand’s Noo-Kean Sudarat scored 14 goals.
Apart from Orpita, Kona Akter, Airin Riya and Nadira Ema also showed their goal-scoring spree, with netting five goals each in six matches when all four players were on the scoresheet in the last against Singapore.
Sanjida Moni led Bangladesh inside seventh minute when Kona, Airin, Nadira and Sonia Khatun netted one goal apiece to take a 6-0 lead by third quarter.
However, the women in Red and Green after the thumping win against Singapore, won their fifth in six matches in the seven-team competition. Bangladesh team, comprising mostly of players from BKSP, guided by team manager Tariquzzaman Nannu, former national men’s hockey team captain put on a brilliant show throughout the tournament following a nerve-wracking 5-4 win over a much stronger Thailand side in their opening fixture.
