The coronavirus situation has been improved significantly in Bangladesh due to the pragmatic leadership and directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The coronavirus situation in the country that was alarming even two months ago can be considered now under control. The country is successfully defeating coronavirus crisis. The situation is far better than many other countries of the world.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed her firm determination to ensure Covid vaccines for every Bangladeshi. Bangladesh has got vaccines earlier than many other developed countries.
The government of Sheikh Hasina has ensured mass vaccination, social awareness, corona dedicated hospital facility, telemedicine service, rapid corona test facility, social distancing and other health guidelines to curb the infections and deaths in the country.
Government has also ensured financial aid for the people across the country amid the pandemic. Relief goods have been distributed among the helpless people. Food items were sent to the doorsteps of the poor and helpless people during the shutdown so that no one had to starve. Food, masks and other essentials have been distributed by the government, and the ruling Awami League leaders and activists from the very beginning of the pandemic.
The positivity rate has been below five percent for the thirteenth day in a row. The World Health Organization (WHO) considers a pandemic to be under control if the infection rate remains below five percent for two consecutive weeks.
The current positivity rate has dropped to 2.90 percent in the last 24 hours till Sunday.
Prof Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, Director General (Health) of DGHS told the Bangladesh Post, “The Covid-19 situation across the country has improved due to the timely measures adopted by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Successful vaccination programme and increased awareness among people have been ensured.”
He also said, “The Covid-19 situation has improved significantly in the last couple of weeks. The government’s speedy vaccination programmes, relentless services of doctors and nurses and awareness of people have made it possible.”
He further said that the people of Bangladesh received vaccine at a very early stage of the pandemic due to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visionary leadership.
“Many countries of the world are yet to get vaccines. Our Prime Minister was determined to ensure vaccine for every one of the country from the very beginning,” he said.
The joint efforts of everyone have enabled the country to get over the devastating phase of coronavirus, he added.
Prof M Muzaherul Huq, former adviser to World Health Organization (WHO) and founder of Public Health Foundation of Bangladesh said that the coronavirus situation is under control.
While talking to the Bangladesh Post, he said, “The second wave of coronavirus has been successfully brought under control through the nationwide vaccination programme and social awareness.”
“However, the vaccination programme has to be continued. A total of 80 percent of the people needs to be vaccinated. The awareness that has been created among the people has to be maintained,” he said.
Putting emphasis on contact tracing he said that isolation of the remaining people carrying the virus has to be ensured to prevent the emergence of another wave.
However, Bangladesh registered 18 more deaths from Covid-19 till 8am Sunday. The total number of deaths has reached 27,573 with the latest figure.
The country recorded 617 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 1,557,964, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday.
The death rate now stands at 1.77 percent in the country, added the release.
Among the 18 deceased, nine were men and nine were women. Seven each of the deceased were from Dhaka and Chattogram and two each were from Rajshahi and Khulna.
A total of 21,246 samples were tested across the country till 8am Sunday.
During this period 1,172 Covid-19 patients have recovered. A total of 1,518,754 people have recovered from the virus so far and the recovery rate stands at 97.48 percent.
