Newly appointed High Commissioner of Canada to Bangladesh Dr. Lilly Nicholls presented her credentials to President Md. Abdul Hamid on Thursday at a ceremony at the Bangabhaban in Dhaka.
Following the ceremony, the President and the High Commissioner had the opportunity to discuss the “excellent relations” between the two countries, the High Commission said in a statement.
“The High Commissioner noted that it is an honour and privilege for her to represent Canada in Bangladesh, and that she is looking forward to celebrating 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations in February, 2022.”
Canada recognised Bangladesh shortly after its birth as a nation in 1972, and is “proud of the last 50 years of its partnership, as the country has made unprecedented progress to improve the lives of its citizens.”
“The multifaceted Canada-Bangladesh relationship will continue to flourish, based on shared values of democracy, good governance, human rights and pluralism,” the High Commission said in a statement.
