With the theme ‘Sheikh Russel: A Symbol of Brilliance, Fearlessness, Serenity, and Impregnability’, Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) observed Sheikh Russel Day on Wednesday (October 18) amid various programmes.
The programmes took place at headquarters of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP), its academy and districts as well as upazila offices, marking the 60th birthday of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib.
Major General AKM Aminul Haque, director general of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP; inaugurated the day's programme by placing a floral wreath at the portrait of Sheikh Russel at the headquarters of the force, says a press release.
A discussion was held in the presence of members of all levels of the force and a video documentation on the life of Sheikh Russell was shown marking the day. Discussion and pacing floral wreaths were also held at district and upazila offices across the country.
