Bangabandhu Tunnel to make vital contributions to economy

The Bangabandhu Tunnel will serve as a link between the eastern part of the country especially the Matarbari deep sea port and connect with India, said FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam at a round table meeting on Bangabandhu Tunnel, which is all set inaugurate.  

The roundtable discussion took place at the World Trade Center, Agrabad in the port city on Saturday. regarding 

Addressing as the chief guest he said, Bangabandhu Tunnel will also contribute like Padma bridge to the country's GDP.  To get the full benefit of the mega projects that have been implemented around the Chittagong region, there is no alternative to the construction of the Dhaka-Chittagong Expressway.  

Investors will not want to fly from Dhaka to Chittagong in one-and-a-half hours and go to Mirsharai in two hours from Chittagong.

Therefore, if the Dhaka-Chittagong Expressway is built, it will be possible to reach Mirsharai Shilpanagar from Dhaka in just two hours, which will speed up the country's economy.  

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the first Bangabandhu Tunnel in South Asia under the Karnaphuli River on October 28.  

The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized this round table meeting to get the views of Chittagong's leading businessmen, academics, urban planners, civil society and related stakeholders on how the tunnel can play a positive role in increasing investment and trade in Chittagong and changing the overall economic scenario.

Chattogram Chamber President Omar Hazzaz said in the President's speech, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel is one of the examples of indigenous capacity after Padma Bridge.  Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken the responsibility of Chittagong in her own hands and is gifting one mega project after another.  

Realizing the necessity of alternative connection between the two banks of Karnaphuli to develop Chittagong as one city to town, this tunnel has been implemented.

Ekushey Medalist Dainik Azadi Editor MA Malek said, the much anticipated Bangabandhu Tunnel is being launched.  This is a very big news.  This is a huge achievement for the people of Chittagong.  

He said, Special Economic Zone is already being developed in Chittagong.  A power hub is under construction.  Various mega projects have been implemented, including expansion of deep sea port and Chittagong port.  Now we are also starting to use the river bed through the Bangabandhu Tunnel.  Which will take our economy to different heights.

Raisa Mahbub, vice-president of the chamber, said, "As citizens, it is our responsibility to make everyone aware."  He urged the business community to come forward to inform the general public how the mega projects implemented in the country will bring positive changes.
