A sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman made out of sand was inaugurated in Cox’s Bazar sea beach on Wednesday on the occasion of Victory Day. This is the first sand sculpture of Bangabandhu in the world.
Students of Fine Arts Faculty of Dhaka University constructed sand sculpture of Bangabandhu at Laboni Point. With the help of Cox’s Bazar’s Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) Office, Branding Cox’s Bazar took the initiative as a protest against the vandalism of Bangabandhu’s sculpture at Kushtia.
It was known that the sculpture was constructed by a group of 10 students from the Fine Arts Faculty led by Kamrul Islam Shipon. Two sculptures have been made here. A free standing sculpture of Bangabandhu, while the other is a relief sculpture. Visitors to the beach will be delighted to see this sculpture. According to the makers, the sculpture, which is about 6 feet high and 14 feet wide, is the largest sand sculpture ever made in Bangladesh. The sculpture was made under the theme ‘I will respect the father of the nation Mora Amlan’ and it will be open to the public till December 31. Branding Cox’s Bazar provided overall support for the construction of the sculpture.
Kamrul Hasan Shipon said, “Our initiative is to showcase the world’s largest man on the world’s largest beach. Since it is the beach. So we have taken the initiative to build ‘sand sculpture’ with the sand of the beach. This sand sculpture will be the largest sculpture ever made in the world.”
Branding Cox’s Bazar coordinator Ishtiaq Ahmed Joy said that he wanted to send a message to fanatics and extremists that they should not show the audacity to tear down or remove the sculpture of Bangabandhu.
Ishtiaq Ahmed Joy also said, “We want to send a message to the people on the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation on the day of great victory and in protest against the demolition of the sculpture in Kushtia. The father of the nation will be in the heart of man. The construction of this sand sculpture of Bangabandhu has cost about 7 lakh rupees.”
Deputy Commissioner. Kamal Hossain said a storm had erupted across the country in protest of the insult to the sculpture of the Father of the Nation in Kushtia. It is our moral duty to keep the honor of Bangabandhu intact. To that end we have built this large sand sculpture of the Father of the Nation on the longest beach. As long as the world exists, the existence and honor of the Father of the Nation will survive.
