The Bangladesh Consulate General in Istanbul has observed the 103rd birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day 2023 in a befitting manner. The day begins with hoisting the national flag and paying floral respect to the portrait of Bangabandhu. A special discussion on the life and works of Bangabandhu was also arranged at the conference hall of the occasion on March 17.
Eminent Bangladeshis living in Istanbul attended the event. Children took part in an art contest.
Messages of President Md Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam were read out during the discussion. A documentary on Bangabandhu was also screened. Consul General Mohammed Nore-Alam in his speech said Bangabandhu had undertaken “many relevant and visionary programmes so that children would develop into creative, thoughtful and open-minded people.”
He said Bangabandhu was very conscious about the education of children and that’s why he made primary education free and nationalised 37,000 primary schools in 1973.
He said today's children are the main strength to build the 'Golden Bangla' of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu’s dream and the 'Smart Bangladesh' by 2041 as dreamt by Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He encouraged the children and teenagers present at the event to read Bangabandhu's autobiography to know about his life and work. Turkish journalist Ahmed Juskonainin termed Bangabandhu as “world leader” and said his work is still relevant in today's world.
