The greatest leader of Bangladesh and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was remembered on Sunday with artworks and some extraordinary photographs.
This is the special exhibition of photographs that sketch the unprecedented struggle, devotion, leadership and diplomacy of Bangabandhu for the Independence of Bangladesh. Some photographs and artworks were displayed where Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was seen with other contemporary great leaders including Mahatma Gandhi (Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi) and Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday digitally inaugurated the 3D and virtual artworks and photo exhibition on the occasion of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day.
Bangabandhu’s Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee organized the exhibition and a discussion at the International Mother Language Institute (IMLI) in the city. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined the discussion virtually from Ganabhaban.
In her speech, Sheikh Hasina said, “Bangladesh’s first military ruler Ziaur Rahman was the “real villain” of the August 15, 1975 plot while years later his wife Khaleda Zia emerged as another such figure as the August 21, 2004 grenade attack was carried out.”
Former minister for cultural affairs Asaduzzaman Noor, MP, recited a poem on Bangabandhu and Chief Coordinator of the Bangabandhu’s birth centenary celebration national implementation committee Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury gave welcome address.
A documentary highlighting Bangabandhu’s life and works was also screened on the occasion.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman played the pivotal role in achieving Bangladesh’s independence. After the liberation of the country he began rebuilding the war-ravaged state.
The government has announced the commemoration of 2020–2021 as the Mujib Year on the occasion of the centennial birth anniversary of the founding leader of the country, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The UN General Assembly, UNESCO, has decided to jointly celebrate the Mujib Year with Bangladesh at the UNESCO 40th General Assembly.
Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser has issued a proclamation about Mujib year. In the proclamation he has declared Mujib Year from March 17, 2020 to March 17, 2021.
On March 17 in 1920, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born in Tungipara of Gopalganj.
On August 15, 1975, the great leader, along with most of his family members, was assassinated by a disgruntled group of army men.
