Work of the biopic on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is progressing fast and the film is likely to be released in March 2022, said Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hassan Mahmud.
He made the remark while speaking with reporters at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) in capital’s Tejgaon area on Monday afternoon. He went there to observe the progress of the film, based on Bangabandhu's life and work, which is being co-produced by Bangladesh and India.
Biopic Director Shyam Benegal, Information Commissioner Dr Abdul Malek, BFDC Managing Director Nuzhat Yasmin, Biopic Screenwriter Atul Tewari, Casting Director Baharuddin Khelon, actors and craftsmen were present on the occasion. After talking to them, the minister spoke to the reporters.
Dr Hasan Mahmud said, “The work of Bangabandhu’s biopic is progressing fast, the work of shooting the final round is going on in Dhaka. Then there will be some post-production work in Mumbai. I spoke to director Shyam Benegal and his team.”
“Expressing satisfaction over the shooting in Dhaka, they said that they are able to work here as per schedule and get all the support they need. They are hoping to release it in March next year”, the minister informed further.
Informing that Bangabandhu’s biopic was planned to be released a year ago but it was not possible due to the Corona pandemic the minister said if the overall situation is fine the movie will be released by March next year.
Bangabandhu’s biopic will be a milestone movie in the joint venture of India and Bangladesh. Hasan said, “Not only the new generation, we have read many things about Bangabandhu ourselves, but there is a big difference between reading and seeing the same thing in the picture.”
“When this film is released, people will be able to see Bangabandhu and the struggles, sacrifices, dreams and realizations of Bangabandhu in reality. I think the film will play a huge role in enriching our history and informing the new generation about the history”, Hasan Mahmud added.
