Sale of various types of bananas including Chini Chapa, Bogura Sabri, Meher Sagar, Kanthali Banana, Baisachhari are increasing at Dasmail Banana Market in Badargonj area of Chuadanga district in Ramadan month. A huge quantity of bananas are available in the market for the increasing demand due to Ramadan. Bananas are being sold at Tk 350 to Tk 1,000 according to the variety and size of each ‘Kadi’. So, farmers in the area are engaging in banana cultivation .
The Dasmail market is open on Sunday and Thursday. On these days, bananas are being bought and sold from dawn to noon. Farmers and seasonal traders from Chuadanga, Meherpur, Jhenaidah, Kushtia bring bananas to the market. Traders from different parts of the country have been buying about 40 to 45 trucks of bananas from the market two days a week.
Due to the good quality of bananas in this region, there is a huge demand for bananas from Chuadanga. In this regard, banana farmers from all areas of Chuadanga bring bananas here. In the month of fasting, bananas are also getting good prices. Hopefully, more than half of the bananas will be sold this Ramadan.
The farmers came to sell bananas at this bazaar hoping to get a fair price, said Abul Kalam Azad Mintu, the president of the market committee. He said, `people and the market committee are providing security to everyone. This is why people are encouraged. Apart from that, they are getting good price of bananas.
Ali Ahmed Hasanuzzaman, Chairman of Kutubpur Union, said that the banana market has accumulated to the good environment. He also said, I hope more people will come to this market to buy and sell bananas.
According to Agriculture Extension Department, 1,700 hectares of banana has been cultivated in the district this season.
