The Bangladesh Musical Band Association (BAMBA) has announced the postponement of their planned “Mukti Concert,” originally scheduled for August 31. The concert was intended to support victims of the anti-discrimination student movement. BAMBA decided to delay the event due to the severe flooding that has affected much of the country.
In a statement posted on their Facebook page, BAMBA explained the decision: "Given the current flood situation and the overall condition of the country, BAMBA has chosen not to participate in the 'Mukti Concert' organized by 'The Bangladeshi Voice' on August 31. We urge everyone to support those affected by the floods."
Although BAMBA had not yet announced the names of the performers or the concert venue, the event was planned to aid revolutionaries and their families who were injured during the student protests.
The decision to postpone the concert has sparked criticism on social media. Many users expressed their discontent, accusing BAMBA of hypocrisy. Some people pointed out that BAMBA had canceled a previous event called the "Joy Bangla" concert but is now organizing a similar event under a different name. Notable guitarist Oni Hasan also criticized BAMBA’s decision, sharing a meme about the concert and commenting, "We need a change in the industry. We, young musicians, have faced a lot of pressure from the seniors and still do. It's time to speak up! Time to reform the music association!"
