An awareness workshop was held at the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) under the Sustainable Capacity Building to Reduce Irreversible Pollution (SCIP Plastics) project. The workshop, titled "Raise awareness, use jute as an alternative to plastic," aimed to highlight the dangers of plastic pollution and promote the use of jute as an eco-friendly alternative.
The event was organized by CUET’s Civil Engineering Department and saw participation from various guests and experts. CUET’s Interim Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Sudep Kumar Pal, attended the event, along with special guest Professor Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir, the head of the Civil Engineering Department. Other notable participants included Dr. Ayesha Akhtar, Director of the Research and Extension Directorate, and Professor Dr. Asiful Haque, the Scientific Expert of the SCIP Plastics Project.
Deputy Director of the Student Welfare Department, Md. Saiful Islam, was also present. The event was presided over by the Scientific Director of the SCIP Plastics Project. The workshop was hosted by Niloy Das and Trisha Das.
The workshop is part of a larger initiative funded by the Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection. It is sponsored by several organizations, including the German Bauhaus University Weimar, CUET, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Khulna City Corporation, the Bangladesh Grants Commission, the Bangladesh Jute Association, and the Mongla Port Municipality.
The event highlighted the importance of reducing plastic use and increasing awareness about the environmental benefits of jute, encouraging participants to take action in their communities.
