DSCC, DNCC Councillor Elections

Awami League bags 153 posts; BNP, others 21

Ruling Awami League has shown its political might as apart from two Mayoral posts, Awami League backed and its rebel candidates have won 151 out of 172 general and women ward councillor posts in the elections to two city corporations in capital Dhaka.

Besides, BNP candidates won only 13 councilor posts while Jatiya Party and independent candidates won the eight posts. The elections to the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) were held on February 1. In the election, Fazle Nur Taposh was elected the DSCC Mayor while Atiqul Islam was elected the DNCC Mayor for the second time consecutively with the Awami League tickets.

There are 75 general Ward Councillor posts in the DSCC and 25 posts for the women as reserved seats while 54 general Councillor posts in the DNCC and 18 posts for the women as the reserved seats. Although Ward Councillors were elected without party nominations, excepting a few candidates, almost all of them were backed by different parties like Awami League, BNP, Jatiya Party and CPB.

As per the information received from the Election Commission (EC) and other sources, among 75 general Ward Councillor posts in the DSCC, ruling Awami League won 69 posts. Of them 13 were rebel candidates in the Awami League. Besides, five candidates won from BNP and a single from the independent candidates.

Among 25 Women Councillor posts, 17 won from Awami League, four from BNP and four others from independent candidates. Accordingly, among 54 general Ward Councillor posts in the DNCC, 51 won from Awami League. Of them eight winners were the rebels in the Awami League. Besides, two candidates won from BNP and a single from independent. Besides, of the 18 women Ward Councillor posts, 14 candidates won from Awami League, two from BNP and the rest two from independent candidates.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC)
Those who were elected as the general Ward Councillors in the DSCC were Mahbubul Alam (Ward-1), Anisur Rahman (Ward-2), Md Maksud Hossain (Ward-3), Md Jahangir Alam ((Ward-4), Chitta Ranjan Das (Ward-5), Sirajul Islam (Ward-6), Sultan Miah Ward-8), Md Mojammel Huq (Ward-9), Maruf Ahmed Mansur (Ward-10), Md Enamul Huq (Ward-13), Iliasur Rahman (Ward-14), Rafiqul Islam Babla (Ward-15), Nazrul Islam (Ward-16), Mahbubur Rahman (Ward-17), Ferdows Alam (Ward-18), Abul Bashar (Ward-19), Farid Uddin Ahmad (Ward-20), Mohammad Asaduzzaman (Ward-21), Zinnat Ali (Ward-22), Maqbul Hossain (Ward-23) Mokaddes Zahid (Ward-24), Md. Among the rebels in Awami League candidates, who won as the general Ward Councillors, were Mamunur Rashid Shubhro (Ward-12), Kamal Uddin Kabul (Ward-28), Irfan Selim (Ward-30), Shamsuz Zoha (Ward-45), Shahana Akhter (Ward-47), Ruhul Amin (Ward-52), Mohammad Hossain (Ward-56), Anwar Hossain Majumder (Ward-60), Md Ibrahim (Ward-67), Salauddin Ahmed (Ward-69) and AzizulHuq (Ward-74).

Besides, Samsul Huda (Ward-7), Mirza Aslam Asif (Ward-11), Jubayer Adel (Ward-31), Badal Sarder (Ward-49), Meer Hossain (Ward-53), Md Anwar Hossain BNP (Ward-60), Md Jummon Miah (Ward-61) and Md Akhbar Hossain (Ward-75) were elected from BNP and other parties.

DSCC Women Councillors
Those who were elected as the Women Ward Councillor from Awami League are Farzana Yiasmin (Ward-1), Maksuda Samser (Ward-2), Minu Rahman (Ward-3), Farhana Islam Dolly (Ward-4), Roksana Islam (Ward-5), Nargis Mahtab (Ward-6), Sajeda Begum (Ward-7), Nilufa Rahman (Ward-8) Sabina Parvin (Ward-9), Shahinur Begum (Ward-13), Lovely Chowdhury (Ward-14), Nazma Begum (Ward-15), Nasima Ahmed (Ward-16), Sathi Akhter (Ward-17), Shefali Akhter (Ward-19), Farhana Yiasmin Kuasa (Ward-24) and Sahida Begum (Ward-25).

Besides, Women Ward Councillors elected from BNP are Shamsunnahar Bhuiyan (Ward-10), Nasrin Rashid Putul (Ward-11), Suraiya Begum (Ward-12) and Khaleda Alam (Ward-18) while independently elected Women Ward Councillors are Nasrin Ahmed (Ward-20), Selina Khan (Ward-21), Mahfuza Akhter (Ward-22) and Nilufa Yiachhmin Lucky (Ward-22)
