Australia utterly dominated Bangladesh in the final ODI on Wednesday, wrapping up the three match series with a convincing clean sweep. Bangladesh's batting woes continued at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, as they could only muster a meagre 89 runs after electing to bat first. Captain Nigar Sultana's 16 runs were the highest score for the home team.
In reply, Australia barely broke a sweat, chasing down the target in a mere 18.3 overs with eight wickets to spare. Kimberley Garth and Ashleigh Gardner spearheaded the bowling attack with three wickets each, while Ellyse Perry and Sophie Molineux chipped in with two wickets apiece.
Perry anchored the chase with an unbeaten 27, while Beth Mooney provided unbeaten support with 21 runs.
Although all three defeats were pretty galling—the first by 118 runs, the second by six wickets, and the third by eight wickets—it seems the Tigresses had reserved their worst for the last match.
Firstly, the Nigar Sultana-led side registered their lowest score (89) of the series on Wednesday after they were asked to bat first, beating 95 in the first match and 97 in the second.
Bangladesh's performance across all three matches was a far cry from their expectations. Their batting consistently fell short, their bowling lacked penetration, and their fielding wasn't much better.
This outcome comes after a promising run at home against Pakistan and India last year, followed by a historic away win against South Africa earlier this year. The Tigresses will be eager to put this series against the mighty Australians behind them.
