It has been alleged that the election camp of the boat candidate was attacked and the supporter of the boat was beaten and injured in the by-election of Bajrajogini Union of Munshiganj Sadar Upazila.
The attack took place at the boat election camp in Bhatracharyapara area of Bajrajogini Union around 9:30 pm on Saturday night.
Sheikh Riaz Uddin Badsha (32) was injured. He is the son of Fulchan Sheikh of Dhamad village. Later he was admitted to Munshiganj General Hospital with injuries.
Injured Sheikh Riazuddin Badsha said that on Saturday night, he was sitting with his supporters at the election camp of Sirajul Islam, the candidate for the boat symbol of Dhamad area. Suddenly at around 9:30 PM, a group of 20/25 people including Babu Munshi, Shipu Munshi, Shyamal, Bhuvan, Akhter Sheikh, supporters of Tantra candidate Chashma Pratik candidate Shaheen Munshi, son of Late Chairman Tota Munshi, attacked the camp. At that time, when some cocktails exploded, the people in the camp panicked and left the camp. Finding me alone, the terrorists beat me up and injured me. Later, when the locals came forward, the assailants left the spot. On the way, the assailants vandalized my injured motorcycle.
When contacted Alhajj Md Sirajul Islam, the candidate for the boat symbol, he said that people of his opponent attacked Riyaz and set the motorcycle on fire. The matter has been reported to the police station. Riazul is currently recovering in Dhaka. He also said that they are creating chaos so that no good person can become the chairman in the area. When contacted the candidate of Chashma Pratik Md. Shaheen Munsi, he said that the matter is completely false and fabricated. There is no question of attacking them. They are trying to blame us by creating such incidents themselves.
When contacted, Munshiganj Sadar police station officer-in-charge Md. Tarikuzzaman said that a case is under process regarding the incident. Action will be taken subject to spot investigation. It is to be noted that BNP Tota Mia Munshi, Chairman of Bajrajogini Union Parishad of Munshiganj Sadar Upazila passed away on May 6. After that, if the post of the chairman of the union is vacant, the by-election date is announced in the said union on July 27.
