Inspector (Operation) of Shahjadpur police station and investigation officer of the case. Abdul Majeed said, Peshkar Abdul Hai of Assistant Commissioner (Lands) office has filed a case against 55 people named as plaintiff and about 120 unknown people as defendants. Legal action is being taken to report the case.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Shahzadpur Circle) Hasibul Islam said that 7 people were arrested after the case. Stating that no one should be harassed unnecessarily in this case, he said that only the real accused will be arrested after seeing the video and pictures of the incident. Also the barricade they had built over the road with tree trunks and bamboos has been removed.
Stating that the site earmarked for the shelter project is government-recorded waste land, the official added that there is an institution's playground next to it. But the area earmarked for the shelter project is entirely government and fallow land as per the latest records of 1980.
In this regard Sirajganj District Sports Officer Md. Masud Rana said, apart from the designated space for one Sheikh Russell mini stadium at the upazila level, the sports organization does not have any other field. However, I cannot say whether it is government property or local residents or any organization. However, this official also commented that if there is any other government place for the construction of the shelter project, it is better not to build the house of the shelter project in the playground.
Shahjadpur Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) to talk about this. Several calls to Tariqul Islam's mobile phone went unanswered.
It is to be noted that yesterday (August 21) there was a clash between the locals and the administration over the construction of a government shelter project in a playground in Shahjadpur of Sirajganj. 6 people including Assistant Commissioner (Land) Liaquat Salman were injured. Also vandalized Upazila Nirbahi officer's car.
When the upazila administration allocated a place for the construction of shelter project houses in the Baldipara-Haldighar playground of the upazila, the locals were opposing this initiative. They have been protesting for quite some time to protect the playground. In continuation of this, Shahjadpur Upazila Executive Officer Tariqul Islam and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Liaquat Salman were going to that field with the necessary manpower for soil filling on Sunday morning. On the way, the agitators stopped them to protect the field. They built barricades with tree trunks and bamboo. When the villagers tried to forcefully enter the field by breaking the barricades, the administration people clashed.
