Potential mayoral and councilor candidates have already started vying for upcoming Chatmohar municipality election in Pabna.
The mayoral candidates are keeping regular contact with the central party leaders to get party nominations as well as running to the voters to get their support.
Councilor and female councilor aspirants are also announcing their candidacies on wall posters. In total 60 potential candidates have started holding mass public gathering to woo the voters.
Incumbent mayor Mirza Rezaul Karim Dulal, Chatmohar Upazila Awami League President Advocate Sakhawat Hossain Sakho and Adv. Saidul Islam Chowdhury are among the possible candidates of Awami League. The possible candidates of BNP are former mayor and former general secretary of upazila BNP Professor Abdul Mannan, Convener of municipal BNP Asaduzzaman Arshed and Joint Convener Adv. Saidur Rahman.
Abul Bashar Abu is a possible candidate of JSD (Inu). The number of potential candidates for the post of mayor and councilors might increase even further. The election is expected to be held in the last week of December. Many potential candidates are asking for prayers, support and votes from public during the mass gatherings.
Criticism and analysis regarding the election and nomination expectants have already began at local tea stalls, shops, offices and office neighborhoods.
YouTuber Siddique Milon, a voter of Ward no 3 said, "We will vote for the person who is the most eligible candidate for the post of mayor. We will choose someone who will think of the betterment of the citizens and be by the side of the citizens in happiness and sorrow.
Chatmohar Upazila Election Officer said that, Chatmohar municipality polls were held on December 30, 2015. Mirza Rezaul Karim Dulal was elected as mayor in that election. His tenure as the mayor will expire on January 25, 2021. According to the rules, the election should be held within 90 days before the expiration of the term.
