Former Chief Whip of the National Parliament and eight-time Member of the Parliament ASM Feroz, who was arrested in a case filed with the Vatara Police Station over the killing of a teenager named Sohag Mia during an anti-discrimination student movement, has been sent to jail by the court.
After 10 days of remand in two phases, the court ordered to send him jail.
On Monday (September 9), ASM Feroz was produced before the court. Following this, the investigating officer of the case and also Sub-Inspector Masudur Rahman, requested that Feroz be kept in custody until the investigation is complete. Meanwhile, his lawyer filed a bail petition.
After hearing from both sides, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub rejected the bail plea and ordered his imprisonment.
Earlier, the court had granted 10 days of remand for ASM Feroz in two phases.
On the night of August 23, ASM Feroz was arrested by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) from the Banani area of the capital. This Awami League leader has been elected as a Member of Parliament eight times. On January 7 of this year, he won from the Patuakhali-2 (Bauphal) constituency.
Notably, during the anti-discrimination student movement, on the afternoon of July 19, Sohag Mia was shot dead by police in front of Farazi Hospital in the Vatara Police Station area.
On August 20, Sohag's father, Shafayet Hossain, filed a murder case at Vatara Police Station regarding the incident.
