Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Sunday urged journalists to ask the ambassadors of the countries who are investing in Myanmar despite genocide.

“This is unacceptable,” he said, after saying that seven banks have invested in Myanmar which is facing charges in the International Criminal Court (ICC) for carrying out genocide against Rohingyas in the Rakhine State.

Bangladesh has given shelter to over 1.1 million Rohingya refugees who are denied their citizenship by the Myanmar government.

The foreign minister, indicating western countries, said that they always talk about human rights, but they are investing in the country which is carrying our genocide.

“You should ask the ambassadors of those countries why they are doing this,” he told journalists after his meeting with the Russian ambassador at the foreign ministry.

Earlier, Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus called on the international organisations including the UNHCR to be more active to ensure all inhabitable arrangements and fundamental rights for the Rohingya people forcibly displaced from Myanmar.

He made the call at a meeting with Ambassadors, High Commissioners and Heads of delegations of various international organisations at the Prime Minister’s Office.

The meeting was informed that the government has taken initiative to shift more 80,000 Rohingyas staying at various camps in Cox’s Bazar to Bhashan Char within the shortest possible time.

More than 18,000 Rohingyas have already been taken to Bhashan Char, while the process is on to shift more Rohingyas soon.
