Asif snubbed despite heroics

Bashundhara Kings' record-breaking purchase, goalkeeper Mohammad Asif, has found himself on the receiving end of a puzzling snub. The towering shot-stopper, who was instrumental in the club's recent U-20 triumph, has been overlooked for the upcoming Asian Cup qualifiers.

The decision has raised eyebrows, especially given Asif's heroics in the SAFF U-20 Championship. His penalty-saving performance against India in the semi-finals and his stellar display in the final against Nepal cemented his status as a rising star.

Despite joining the U-20 camp after a brief break from club duties, Asif was deemed 'not match fit' by coach Maruful Haque. This claim has been met with scepticism, particularly given the club's insistence that the player was fully prepared.

The situation has been further complicated by a disagreement between the club and the national team over player release.

Bashundhara Kings have accused the coach of 'unprofessional behaviour' after several of their players, including Asif, were denied places in the squad.

The club has expressed their frustration with the decision, particularly given Asif's outstanding performances.

The goalkeeper's exclusion from the team has left many wondering whether the coach's decision is based solely on fitness grounds or if there are other factors at play.
