Opener Ashiqur Rahman Shibli hammred a 119 balls century to steer Bangladesh Under-19 to an impressive six wickets win over their Sri Lankan counterpart in the Asia Cup age group tournament;
Held in Dubai, Bangladesh won the toss and sent Sri Lanka into bat and booked them on 198 runs in the stipulated 50 overs match on Wednesday.
Ashiqur Rahman, who struck 71 and 55 runs against United Arab Emirates and Japan respectively, carried through the bat in the second successive match. On the day, Ashique was unbeaten for 116 runs with hitting 11 fours and two sixes.
Chasing to a modest total the young Tigers reached the target by 40.5 over losing only nnn wickets.
It was third successive win for the Bangladesh Under-19t team, who began their campaign with defeating the hosts Arab Emirates, grabbed their second win against Japan and secured the third win in a row just outplaying Sri Lanka.
Ashiqur Raham Shibli, the prolifc opener, on his way score the century hit nine fours and two sixes and finally remain unbeaten for 116 runs from deliveries.
Apart from the opener Shibli, Rezwan and Ahrar Amin were the other notable contributors with scoring 32 and 23 runs respectively.
The Young Tigers, replying to Sri Lankan challenge saw a huge setback just at the initital stage losing the first wicket of opener Jishan Alam for a duck in the fifth ball of the first over when the scoreboard was showing only one run.
But Ashique with the one down bats Rizwan added 74 runs when Bangladesh lost second wicket for 75 runs in 16.1 overs. In the third wicket stand Ashique and Ariful Islam scored another fifty (57) runs partnership before losing the third wicket on 132 runs.
But Ashique accompanied by Ahrar Amin added another 60 runs in fourth wicket partnership to bring the team closer to winning mark. Ahrar got out for 23 off as many balls with the team was just seven runs to win the match.
Ashique finally carrying through the bat with 104 runs as Bangaldesh won the match by six wickets.
Earlier, Sri Lanka after being sent to bat first made a sensible start with scoring 37 runs in the first wicket partnersip and the second wicket also did well with scoring 37 runs.
But after losing the third wicket, Sri Lanka lost their rest of the wickets in regular intervals and could managed 198 rusn playing allocated full 50 overs.
