Alhaj Shamsul Hoque Foundation (ASHF) has come forward to take on responsibility for the shelter centre founded by Milton Samadder.

Muhammed Nasir Uddin, Chairman of the Foundation, has showed interest in aiding the children and elderly and sick people residing in Milton Samadder’s Child and Old Age Care Centre. Additional Commissioner Harun-Or-Rashid, chief of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), informed the media about the matter on Monday.

He said, “Milton Samadder is on remand for four days after his arrest. Alhaj Shamsul Hoque Foundation has taken responsibility for taking care of children and helpless old and mentally sick people who take shelter in the centre. Its chief came to us yesterday. He will serve the dependents by staying in that shelter centre.”

Milton Samadder informed the court that currently 45 children are in the shelter centre. At one stage of the hearing, he said 45 children were in the ashram. He asked DB to take them.

Milton Samadder was produced before the court on Sunday after his three-day remand ended.

After that, DB applied for a seven-day remand, saying that Milton was arrested in a human trafficking case. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehra Mahbub granted the application to arrest him in the human trafficking case. Apart from this, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Shanta Akhter granted his four-day remand after the hearing.

The DB chief said, “We have found a noble person. He came to us yesterday. We requested him. He is the chief of Alhaj Shamsul Hoque Foundation. He agreed to take full charge of Milton’s Child and Old Age Care Centre. He will bear all the expenses.”

“Alhaj Shamsul Hoque Foundation will serve the poor and helpless people sheltered in the centre. For now, it will continue like this. I will think about it later,” he added.

In response to a question about what new information was divulged during the interrogation of Milton Samadder, who is on remand, Harun said, “The information we have received is being verified. All complaints will be investigated.”

When asked about Milton Samadder’s drug consumption, Harun said, “Milton himself admitted that he takes Yaba.

“Milton issued death certificates himself for the people who died in his shelter centre, forging the doctor’s seal and signature. Where are they buried without janaza? Milton started admitting that information. This will be informed after the investigation is over,” said the DB chief.

DB has also instructed the foundation to appoint a doctor to ensure the wellbeing of the occupants.

When asked about taking responsibility for Child and Old Age Care, Alhaj Shamsul Hoque Foundation Chairman Muhammed Nasir Uddin said, “We have temporarily taken charge of this shelter centre. DB Chief Harun Sir is very concerned about this shelter centre. From that point of view, we have taken responsibility for the children and the elderly people in the shelter centre so that they do not suffer.”
