Association for Social Advancement (ASA), one of the largest microfinance institutions in Bangladesh handed over 400 pieces of blankest to the deputy commissioner (DC) in Jhenaidah SM Rafiqul Islam.
The blankets were handed over in the conference room of the DC on Friday morning, said the ASA office sources. Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC, general) Rathindra Nath Roy, ASA Central Office Joint Deputy Director Tariqul Islam, Senior District Manager in Jhenaidah Hafizur Rahman, were present, among others. DC SM Rafiqul Islam thanked the ASA officials and said that other social and microfinance authorities should stand by the cold-hit poor people.
ASA officials said they have been distributing blankets among the cold-hit people throughout the country with their own fund to stand by them. Handing over the blankets to Jhenaiidah DC was a part of their country-wide programme, they said.
