The Bangladesh Artistes’ Welfare Trust has been restructured with a new committee to better support the artistic community. The Ministry of Cultural Affairs announced the reformation through an official notification.

The newly formed committee consists of 15 members. Key figures from the Ministry of Culture, including the Ministry’s Adviser, Secretary, Director General of Bangla Academy, Director General of Shilpakala Academy, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, and the Managing Director of the Artistes’ Welfare Trust, are part of this group.

In addition to these representatives, the committee includes several distinguished individuals from various fields of art and culture. The new members are poet, columnist, and organizer Nahid Hasan; renowned film director Ashfaque Nipun; actor Nawshaba Ahmed; theatre personality and educator Samina Luthfa; writer and teacher Tuhin Wadud; and well-known musician Kanak Chapa. Poets Imtiaz Mahmud and Syed Jamil also join the committee.

This reformation is set to enhance the Trust’s efforts in supporting artists across Bangladesh. The Artistes’ Welfare Trust, which officially began its work on 11 August 2022, provides crucial assistance to impoverished and ill artists. It also offers scholarships to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the arts.

The new committee will oversee the Trust’s activities for the next three years, ensuring that it effectively addresses the needs of artists and continues to recognize their significant contributions to the cultural landscape of Bangladesh. This change reflects a commitment to strengthening support for the arts and improving the welfare of artists throughout the country.
