Arsa hideout busted in tourist zone of Cox’s Bazar: 3 held

Bombs and mine-makng materials seized

RAB-15 discovered a hideout of Myanmar terrorist group 'Arkan Rohingya Salvation Army' (Arsa) in Kalatali area of tourist zone of Cox's Bazar city on Sunday.

A large quantity of crude bombs explosive-like materials, military uniforms and various bomb-making equipment were recovered from the hideout. Arsa's logistics wing chief Hafez Rahmat Ullah along with three terrorists have been arrested.

The hideout was used to collect and store bomb and mine making equipment, RAB said. Which was sent to the Arsa members in various Rohingya camps in Ukhia and Teknaf for sabotage. Mainly to work on sabotage plan in Arsa Rohingya camp. Meanwhile, an audio message of Arsa chief Ataullah has also been received by RAB. Where the head of the terrorist group has ordered sabotage in the camp and attack on law enforcement personnel.

RAB-15 Cox's Bazar Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel HA Sajjad Hossain gave this information in a press conference organized at RAB-15 office on Sunday afternoon.

In the press conference, he said, based on the information of a special intelligence agency of the state, this raid was conducted in a rented house near DC Pahar in Kalatali Adarshagram of Cox's Bazar city from dawn to 9 am.

Arrested in the raid are the son of deceased Abul Kashem of Kutupalong Rohingya Camp No. 3 of Ukhia Upazila and Hafez Rahmat Ullah (35), head of Arsa Logistics Branch, Md. of Kutupalong Rohingya Camp No. 5. Manzoor Alam (23), son of Nurul Islam and leader of a faction of Arsa, and Nurul Islam (25), son of Kamal Hussain of the same camp and block leader of Arsa.4.9 kg of explosives, 15 cocktails, ID making equipment, 1.5 kg of ammunition, 1 walkie-talkie, 53 circuits, 9 bundles of military uniforms, 70 genjis, 12 caps, 130 hand gloves, 1 laptop.

In a press conference, RAB-15 Cox's Bazar Battalion Commander Lt. Col. HA Sajjad Hossain said that Rohingya Rahmad Ullah stayed in Shahparir Dwip after infiltrating Bangladesh in 2000. Where he studied Hafez, Dawarae Hadith for different periods in different institutions and became proficient in Burmese, Rohingya, Bengali, English, Urdu, Arabic languages. After completing his studies, he moved from Bangladesh to Myanmar in 2014. Later he sold his land and deposits from Myanmar and went to Malaysia via Thailand.

Later, in 2018, he moved from Malaysia to Bangladesh and started living in the Rohingya camp. Hafez Rahmat Ullah joined Arsa in 2019 through Maulvi Rafiq, Second-in-Command of Arsa Gun Group Commander Master Yunuch. Soon after joining Arsa, he was sent to Myanmar for training and stayed there for 4 months to complete his training through Arsa.

After joining Arsa, Rahmat Ullah first became a member of Arsa Ulama body and used to invite common Rohingyas to join Arsa in various mosques. He also used to provide Dawati training to the members of Arsa's Ulama body. Through this, a good relationship was developed with Arsa Chief Ataullah and Second-in-Command Master Khaled and through Signal Apps, Hafez Rahmat Ullah continued to communicate with them regularly. To facilitate logistics support for Arsa, collection and delivery of various materials for making bombs and mines, Ustad Khaled started living in a rented house in Cox's Bazar city.

In this context, he was given the responsibility of logistics support for Arsa, supplying various materials for making bombs and mines and was appointed as the head of the logistics wing.

The RAB captain said, Rahmat Ullah said in the initial interrogation that he had procured logistics equipment from various sources, especially uniform clothes, winter clothes, raincoats, boots, shoes, socks, belts, caps, bags and bombs for Arsa as per the demand of the Arsa chief and the head of the military branch. 

And for making mines, hydrogen peroxide, mercury, foam, torch lights, batteries, battery caps, electric wires, electric clips, small table clocks, small lights, iron rods, cement, small iron, pipes, glass etc. Used to collect bomb and mine making equipment and store it at different places in Cox's Bazar. Later, Arsa second-in-command Khaled used to send the equipment to Arsa members in various Rohingya camps in Ukhia and Teknaf.

AH Sajjad Hossain said that the detained Manzoor Alam Kutupalong works as the in-charge of Arsa B-Block of Camp No. 5 and he is the team leader of 10 people.

Another arrested accused Nurul Islam is a gin mother of B-4 block of the same camp.

 Nurul Islam and Manzoor Alam used to take the equipment from Rahmat Ullah to the Rohingya camp. 3 people have been handed over to Cox's Bazar Sadar Police Station after filing a case in this regard.

It was informed in the press conference that RAB-15 conducted raids in different areas of Cox's Bazar in the last one year, Arsa's top terrorist and military commander, Gun Group Commander, Finance Secretary, personal assistant and finance coordinator of Arsa Chief Ataullah, head of the most wanted killer group, Camp A total of 83 active members of Arsa were arrested including Commander, Ulama Body and Head of Torture Cell, Sleeper Cell and one of the top commanders of Ulama Body, Finance Coordinator, Commander of Intelligence Cell.
