General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, Chief of Bangladesh Army vowed to bridge the gap between the military and the media.
He made this vows during an interaction with members of the Defence Journalists Association of Bangladesh on the sidelines of the Army's winter exercise in Savar last week.
General Shafiuddin said, after taking charge as the Army Chief, I told the Prime Minister that there should be no gap between the Army and the public or the media. I feel we can all work together.
He further said media management is actually part of the Army training. Blaming the media for sometimes creating a rift by putting out "embarrassing" news about the Army, the General said, "We will help each other."
A media cell is already there at the Army headquarters and it will work with the defense journalists, he said. "The Army is prepared to perform any duties as per the directives of the government."
On the exercise, the director of the Directorate General of Military Intelligence, Mamun Ur Rashid said, “Our motto is 'hard training, easy war’."
DJAB President Abul Khair, General Secretary Alamgir Hossain and Executive Member Masud Karim, among others spoke on the occasion.
ISPR Director Lt Col Abdullah Ibn Zaid, Jahangir Alam, vice-president of DJAB, Mamunur Rashid, former general secretary of DJAB, Aynal Hossain, finance secretary and other senior officers of the army and several members of DJAB, were also present at the programme.
