Cox's Bazar army personnel have continued their activities to assist the civilian administration in ensuring social distancing to prevent coronavirus transmission. In this regard, members of Bangladesh Army's 10th Infantry Division are providing relief and medical assistance to those who have become unemployed due to coronavirus in various upazilas of Cox's Bazar and Chattogram district.
On Saturday, the 10th Infantry Division distributed rice, pulses, flour, oil, salt and essential food items among the poor in six upazilas of Cox's Bazar and four upazilas of Chattogram without any announcement. The distressed and helpless people became emotionally overwhelmed with the essential food items in their hands and expressed their gratitude to the army and the government.
At that time, the army members urged all to stay in their homes following the government's directive. In case of any urgent need, the army assures everyone that the army will be on the side of the people, as directed by the government. Army patrol teams have been visiting the villages for the last few days, delivering food assistance to the homes of the really needy and the desperate.
Besides, free medical assistance and medicines were distributed among the poor people by doctors of Ramu Cantonment in various places including Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar district. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the income of the common people has stopped. Besides, due to the lockdown in Cox's Bazar district, ordinary people are unable to leave the house. In this case they are glad to receive medical assistance and medicine from the army. They urged the army to continue such medical assistance.
In addition to the relief and medical assistance, the army personnel went to different markets, shops and localities and requested the common people to maintain social distancing through loudspeakers. They urged people to avoid going out except for emergencies.
They set up a space to maintain a safe distance, including providing incentives to traders at various business establishments that are open to an urgent need. Army personnel are spraying antibacterial spray in various populated areas including roads, shops and businesses.
