Army continues rescue operations

Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Air Force, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Coast Guard on Saturday joined the rescue and relief operations for the flood victims in Sylhet and adjacent areas.

According to Sylhet Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Mojibur Rahman, Bangladesh Army started rescue activities in different upazilas of the district from Friday.

The Navy on Saturday started work to rescue flood victims on Saturday morning, joining the army.

He further said navy personnel had arrived and a team of 35 divers had started work, adding that a team of 60 divers would join them later in the day.

Sylhet DC Mojibur told that  two Coast Guard ships are expected to arrive today (Saturday). 

According to sources, one will go to Sunamganj and the other will be engaged in rescue work in Sylhet. In addition, two air force helicopters will be engaged in the rescue operations.

Some local journalists told that one team of the navy was working in Jalalabad union of Sylhet Sadar upazila while another team was in Companiganj. Besides, the army was engaged in rescue operations in Sylhet Sadar, Companiganj and Gowainghat. 

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) are also assisting in the evacuation efforts in the border areas.
