Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed on Saturday visited the Khurushkul Special Shelter Project in Khurushkul Union of Cox's Bazar.
According to the ISPR handout, he inquired into the progress of the construction work of the project and provided necessary directions to the authorities concerned.
The project is being implemented under the supervision of the Bangladesh Army.
Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division (AFD) of the Army Lieutenant General Walker-uz-Zaman, Quarter Master General (QMG) Lieutenant General M Saiful Alam and Chief Consultant General Major General FM Zahid Hossain, were present, among others, during the inspection.
While visiting the project, General Shafiuddin said that the Khurushkul Special Shelter Project, one of the priority projects of the Prime Minister, has the main goal to rehabilitate 3808 landless families due to climate change effects and expansion of Cox's Bazar Airport.
The project was approved at the ECNEC meeting on November 24 in 2020. One of the main features of the project is to construct a total of 119 five-storied buildings with pile foundation.
In addition, various facilities including places of worships, cyclone shelters, playgrounds and clean water supply are being constructed under this project. The project is being implemented by 34 Engineer Construction Brigade of the Bangladesh Army and is expected to be completed by June 2023. The army chief later visited various developmental activities of the Army at Himchhari, adjacent to Inani beach and Marine Drive.
He also inquired about the current progress of the work and gave necessary directions to the persons concerned.
