The 17th council meeting of Armed Forces Medical College was held in the capital Dhaka on Tuesday.

Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed presided over the council meeting held at the conference room of Dhaka Cantonment Armed Forces Medical College. 

Armed Forces Medical College is the only residential medical educational institution in the country. Various important decisions regarding the management of Armed Forces Medical College were taken in the meeting, an ISPR handout said.

Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division Lieutenant General Mizanur Rahman Shameem,  Director General Medical Services (DGMS) Major General AKM Mustafa Kamal Pasha,  Adjutant General Major General Major General Jubayer Salehin , Commandant of the Armed Forces Medical College  Major General Quazi Md Rashid-Un-Nabi,  and other senior officials of the Ministry of Defence, Finance, Education and Health and representatives of the Army, Navy and Air Force were also present.

In 1997, it was decided to start the Armed Forces Medical College on the existing premises of the Armed Forces Medical Institute.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina unveiled the name plaque for the construction of the permanent building of the college on March 19, 1998.  Armed Forces Medical College started its journey on 20 June 1999 with 56 medical cadets under the affiliation of Dhaka University. 

Later on 5 June 2008, the Armed Forces Medical College was affiliated to Bangladesh University of Professionals.

At present, a total of 763 cadets are studying in this college in six academic years. So far, 1,678 doctors, including foreign cadets, have been trained in 20 batches who are working abroad with Bangladesh Army and United Nations Peace Mission. The educational programmes of other batches are going on as per the schedule.

The quality of education in Armed Forces Medical College is always high which is reflected in various professional MBBS examinations. 

The college is one of the top local educational institutions in terms of the pass rate of professional MBBS exams conducted under the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP).
