Jahangir Hossain has allegedly been serving as an assistant arithmetic teacher at Garaganj Secondary School in Shailkupa upazila of the district for the last 13 years with a fake teacher’s training certificate.
The said teacher, allegedly backed by the present president of the school management committee (SMC), claimed that he joined the school in 2004 while he had served as a contractual teacher for an amount of Tk 6,000 during the tenure of previous president Advocate Abdul Mannan since 2007.
Following the reported backing of the teacher against the present headmaster, acting upazila secondary education officer and SMC president, the district administration ordered the education department officials to investigate the matter.
According to the allegation, born on August 12 in 1982, Jahangir Hossain had joined as a contractual teacher during the tenure of previous SMC president Advocate Abdul Mannan for Tk 6,000 a month. The then Jhenaidah district education officer (DEO) Sayedur Rahman had forwarded a letter to the secondary and higher education department for monthly pay order (MPO) at the salary scale for Tk 8,000 a month.
But the said teacher, Jahangir Hossain, quoting a resolution of the SMC (dated 25.10.2004) claimed that he was appointed accordingly. The roll number of the fake certificate was 31211508, serial number 909352, which could not be found in the register of the teachers training authorities.
But the evidence said the name of Jahangir Hossain could not arise as he did not pass the degree then. The present acting upazila education officer, Sultan Ali, was the academic supervisor in 2011 when Jahangir Hossain had joined the school as an assistant teacher.
Sources said as per the recruitment circular of October 23 in 2011, a total of 15 candidates had prayed for the position of headmaster while 49 for the position of assistant teachers, four prayers for Hindu religious or Pandit position, nine for the position of assistant librarian, five for the position of Daftari (office assistant) and four prayers for the position of nightguards. But the prayer of said teacher Jahangir Hossain was not there.
Sources said Jahangir Hossain had joined the school along with the present headmaster Moklesur Rahman on the same day vide same recruitment letter. Being backed by headmaster Moklesur Rahman, acting upazila secondary education officer, also the then academic supervisor, Sultan Ali and present SMC president Shamim Hossain Mollah, the said teacher had made the circle of a fake force.
When this correspondent had tried to contact the headmaster, present upazila secondary education officer and the SMC president, they had been avoiding the issue for the last couple of months.
When contacted, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education) Salma Salim said they had ordered the education office to investigate the matter and submit the report at an early date.
