‘APBn to step up petrol to prevent crimes in Rohingya camps’

Armed Police Battalion held a view exchange programme with Rohingya leaders in Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar on Saturday for stricter control of crimes in Rohingya camps. In addition to strengthening APBn police patrols to stop killings and vandalism in the camp, APBn Police Chief Additional IGP Salim Mohammad Jahangir BPM has clarified that no terrorist activities will be tolerated in the Rohingya camp.

After 3 days of visiting 33 Rohingya camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf of Cox's Bazar district, he said these in a press briefing at the APBN office located at Rohingya camp No. 14 Palongkhali Hakimpara of Ukhia Upazila after an exchange meeting with Rohingya community leaders today.

He said that the repatriation of the Rohingyas who took refuge in Bangladesh is temporarily delayed due to their internal conflicts in Rakhine, Myanmar. As long as they stay here, APBn Police will take all measures for their security. Apart from this, the Bangladesh government and international organizations including the United Nations are providing food and medical services to the Rohingyas.

He said that crimes such as murder and vandalism are happening in Rohingya camps recently and the Rohingyas themselves are committing these serious crimes. They are fighting among themselves by dividing into different groups. APBn Police is working to create awareness among Rohingyas in this regard. APBn chief has exchanged views with the community leader of the Rohingya camp, the imam of the mosque and religious leaders in order to control crimes in Rohingya camps.

APBn 8 Commander (Additional DIG) Md Amir Zafar BPM, APBn 14 Commander (Additional DIG) Md Iqbal, APBn 16 Commander (Additional DIG) Md Hasan Bari Noor, APBN 8 Deputy Commander (Superintendent of Police) Fazle Rabi, APBn 14 Deputy Commander (Superintendent of Police) Arefin Jewel, Ukhiya Police Inspector (Investigation) Officer Md Saiful Islam along with various senior officers of APBN were present at that time.

The APBn chief visited the camp and discussed the overall situation of the camp with the Head-Majhi and Sub-Majhi of various blocks and asked to cooperate with the police in controlling the law and order situation in the camp
