An anti-corruption debate competition was held in Jamalpur on Monday to create awareness among the school students against corruption.
Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jinnat Shahid Pinki inaugurated the school-based debate competition at the upazila level. Malay Kumar Saha, deputy director of Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) Integrated District Office, Jamalpur, acted as the key discussant while other judges were senior journalist Mukhleshur Rahman and teacher Manowara Khanam.
District Anti-Corruption Committee General Secretary Jahangir Salim acted as moderator while Noor Alam Sujan, member of District Anti-Corruption Committee, Officer-in-Charge of Jamalpur Sadar Police Station Muhabbat Kabir, journalist Anwar Hossain Mintu and ACC Deputy Director Md Atiur Rahman, among others, spoke at the programme.
Jamalpur Government Girls’ High School won the competition held at Jamalpur Public Library auditorium while Sun Shine Laboratory School became runner-up. Maria Kabir Prema, a student of Jamalpur Government Girls' High School and the team leader of the winning team, was awarded as the best speaker. Students of four schools participated in the competition. The two other schools were Jamalpur Collectorate School and Hazrat Shahjamal (R) School and College. Every student who participated in the competition was awarded with educational materials bearing ACC slogans.
However, in the final round, crests and medals were awarded to members of the champion and runner-up teams.
The vivid arguments of the debaters became enjoyable for the viewers and listeners. Hundreds of people, including teachers, students, parents and guests, were present in the event.
ACC Deputy Director Malay Kumar Saha said today's students will play an important role in establishing a corruption-free Bangladesh in the future.
He urged the teachers and students to effectively implement ‘Satota Sangha’ in every school.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jinnat Shahid Pinki welcomed such an event to raise anti-corruption awareness through debate.
Muhabbat Kabir, OC of Sadar Police Station, said if corruption is to be eradicated, this generation must come forward.
