Ansar member Ariful Islam, 35, committed suicide in Chuadanga while on a video call with his spouse.
The heartbreaking incident happened on Sunday night at around 11 p.m. at a rented house close to the Dingedah Ansar Battalion camp in Chuadanga Sadar Upazila.
Ariful Islam, hailing from Joydevpur village in Dinajpur Sadar Upazila, served as a Sepoy in the Ansar Battalion stationed at Dingedah in Chuadanga Sadar Upazila. Confirmation of the tragedy was provided by District Commandant of Chuadanga Ansar and Village Defence Force, Sanjay Chowdhury, who revealed that Ariful Islam's family resided adjacent to the battalion's premises.
While the family had returned to Dinajpur for a holiday, Ariful Islam remained behind. Upon their departure, he was alone in the rented accommodation.
Chowdhury recounted that Ariful had been at the battalion until 9 pm before returning home. Shortly thereafter, his wife contacted the landlord, divulging the grim news of her husband's suicide. Upon receiving the distressing call, the landlord rushed to the residence, only to discover Ariful's lifeless body hanging within.
Preliminary investigations suggest that familial discord may have precipitated Ariful's tragic decision, prompting him to end his life while on a video call with his wife.
Following necessary procedures, including post-mortem examinations, Ariful's remains were laid to rest at the Ansar Battalion premises before being handed over to his grieving family for final rites.
Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Sekender Ali of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station confirmed the incident, attributing it to a family dispute. With no formal complaints lodged, authorities registered a case of wrongful death, signaling a somber conclusion to a harrowing ordeal.
