A member of Bangladesh Ansar died by his service weapon misfire after the Eidgarh Union Parishad election duty in Ramu upazila on Thursday. While unloading his service weapon, which is a shotgun, a misfire occurred, officials stated.
The deceased Ansar member was belal Uddin of Cox’s Bazar Sadar upazila. He was a newly joined member in Bangladesh Ansar force.
Confirming the matter, Ansar BDP district commander Amlan Jyoti Nath said, "After returning to the Ramu Upazila complex after counting votes, some members including Belal were unloading bullets from their shotguns. Belalwas shot in the head by mistake during that time. When he was brought to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital in critical condition, the on-duty doctor declared him dead.”
However, he said that it was being investigated whether the bullet actually came out of his shotgun or someone else's shotgun.
The district commander said that Belal recently joined Ansar after 21 days of training. This was his second election duty.
Ramu Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Pranoy Chakma said the matter was initially thought to be misfire.
