A Russell’s viper snake was seen again in a cultivation land at Rajapur village under Monohorpur Union in Jibannagar Upazila on Friday. The farmers saw the snake while cultivating a land in West Para field. Later, they killed the snake by beating.

Locals said the snake came out of the soil being stuck with the ploughshare while plowing a land in West Para field with a tractor. The snake tried to escape at that time when the locals beat it to death.

They also said that Russell’s viper is found in this area for a long time. They see it every year while working in the field.

Jibannagar Upazila Parishad Chairman Haji Md. Hafizur Rahman said the sudden increase of Russell’s viper in Jibannagar is a matter of concern. But, they are trying to raise awareness among the people so that they can be careful instead of panicking about Russell’s viper.

Amid the ongoing panic about Russell’s viper around the country, a Russell’s viper was noticed in a field at Medinipur village in Jabannagar Upazila on June 26. Locals killed the snake immediately after it was seen. Another Russell’s viper was seen in Rajapur village of the same Upazila on Friday. It was beaten to death by the locals as well.
