Another Russell’s viper snake was caught within a day at Nalapara village under Dhulasar union of Kalapara Upazila in Patuakhali. The snake was caught in the net of Malaysian expatriate Md. Abdul Barek's house on Tuesday.
The snake is almost 5 feet long. The people of the house noticed it trapped in the net beside the road of their house in the morning.
People of the area eagerly thronged the place at that time to catch a glimpse of the snake. However, Animal Lovers of Kalapara in Patuakhali is trying to rescue it.
Abdul Jalil, resident of the household, said the snake was trapped in the net set beside the path leading to the main street from their house any time at night. They noticed it in the morning.
Later, when the news spread in the area, many people flocked the scene to see the snake. He said the snake is still alive and they haven’t hurt it. They informed the Animal Lovers team of Kalapara in Patukhali. They will come and rescue the snake.
Rasel, resident of Chapli Village, who came to see the snake, said this is the first time he saw a Russell’s viper snake.
But he saw pictures of this snake on social media and Youtube earlier and knows it to be a venomous snake.
Bayazid Munshi, member of Animal Lovers team in Kalapara, said a team of their members is going to the spot. They will rescue the snake and hand it over to the Forrest Department after providing first aid to the snake.
He also said they are requesting everyone not to panic if they see a snake and inform them instead. In case anyone gets bitten by a snake, they should immediately go to the nearest government hospital.
They can inform the snake rescue team as well. Snakes are very beneficial to our biodiversity and play an important role to maintain the food chain.
Incidentally, another Russell's viper was caught in farmer Noor Howladar’s net in Baultali village of the same union at Kalapara on Monday.
