A rare species of 'Red Langur' (Hanuman) was killed under the wheels of a speedy truck near Magurchhara Gas Field inside Lawachhara National Forest on Kamalganj-Sreemangol road under Moulvibazar district on Saturday afternoon.
Sources from Wildlife Management and Conservation of Nature department informed, the Red Langur died on the spot after being crushed under the wheels of a speedy truck on Saturday afternoon. Being informed, the forest department workers recovered the dead Langur and informed the higher authority. The dead langur was then buried under soil.
Eco Guide of Lawachhara National Forest Saju Marchiang informed, two Langur have been killed on the road during the last two-month. He said, it was essential to put speed-breaker inside the road of Lawachhara National Forest, otherwise, the reckless driving of vehicles by the drivers would lead to more death of wild animals on the road.
Forest Bit Officer Officer of Lawachhara Mijanur Rahman informed, the dead Langur has been buried under soil but the truck will killed the animal could not be identified.
Rezaul Karim, Divisional Forest Officer informed, drivers have been warned repeatedly to drive vehicles at a slow speed through the hill region but they are not obeying the warning. As a result, wild animals are being killed inside the Lawachhara forest.
