A Dhaka court on Thursday placed former law minister Anisul Huq and Salman F Rahman, the private industry affairs adviser to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on a fresh five-day remand in connection with a murder case.
The case pertains to the death of 31-year-old Suman Sikdar in Dhaka's Badda area during the quota reform protests on July 19.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Nurul Huda Chowdhury issued the remand order around 7:00 am after the police presented the two before the court, prayed for a 10-day remand, a sub-inspector working in the court told The Bangladesh Post.
During the remand hearing, Anisul Huq pleaded his innocence, asserting that both he and Salman F Rahman supported the quota reform movement and were unaware of the incident. "I am innocent and seek justice from the court," he stated.
On August 20, Masuma, victim's mother, filed the murder case at Badda Police Station against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 179 others.
Salman and Anisul were initially arrested in Dhaka's Sadarghat on August 13 and were subsequently placed on a 10-day remand in connection with another case filed at New Market Police Station. This case involved the death of Shahjahan Ali, a 24-year-old shop employee, in the capital's New Market area on July 16.
