Andre Onana breaks silence ahead of Man United move

Andre Onana has claimed Manchester United are an 'irresistible' club ahead of his imminent transfer and can't wait to work with Erik ten Hag again.

United are closing in on making Onana their new No.1 goalkeeper to replace David de Gea. A €55m (£47.2m) deal has been agreed with Inter after Ten Hag swiftly made the Cameroonian his top target.

The timing of his medical has not yet been confirmed but the club are aiming for him to join the squad on their tour of the United States as soon as possible. Onana only joined Inter on a free transfer last summer and admits he would be been happy to stay at the San Siro but couldn't turn down a new challenge at Old Trafford.

“The important thing is to be honest and always tell people the truth. I am a person who always wants new challenges," he told Gazzetta dello Sport, via SportWitness. "Playing in the Premier League and for a club like United is irresistible.

“All parties wanted this to happen. But what matters is that if I had stayed, I would have been happy because I never had any problems at Inter.

“Pride and sadness. You don’t know how much I would have loved to bring the trophy [the Champions League] to Milan, celebrate it with our people,” he added.

“We were close to touching it, we deserved it: we played against City head-on, only details were missing, but this is football… Personally, I hope to win the Champions League with United, but I also hope that Inter replay a final and win it.”

The move will see Onana reunite with former manager Ten Hag who he played 145 times for at Ajax and he admits it's one aspect of the transfer he finds exciting. “Now I really want to start this new experience, exciting and with a coach who for me is a master," he added.

"I will go to a great league and a great club, which has a huge history just like that of Inter: I will start from scratch and give everything every day to show the new fans who I am."
