Amar Ekushey observed with solemn respect across country

The nation observed Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day by paying tribute to the memory of the Language Movement martyrs on Friday. The Language Movement, a significant event in the nation's history, was aimed at establishing the right of the mother tongue as well as protecting self-entity, culture and heritage.

People from all strata of life paid deep respect to the heroes of the Language Movement for their supreme sacrifice in making Bangla the state language of erstwhile Pakistan, walking barefoot to the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka and other Shaheed Minars across the country with wreaths and flowers. In Lakshmipur Language Martyrs were remembered in humble respect on the first hour of February 21 marking Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day on Friday.

People from all walks of life paid tribute to the martyrs of the language movement by placing flowers at Lakshmipur Central Shaheed Minar on the occasion.  Deputy Commissioner of Lakshmipur Anjan Chandra Pal, SP ASM Kamruzzaman, District Awami League President Golam Faruk Pinku, GS Advocate Nuruddin Chowdhury Nayan, Zilla Parishad Chairman Md Shahjahan, and others leaders of different political, social and professional organizations paid homage to the Language Martyrs by placing wreaths at the Shaheed Minar.

In Khulna, Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day was observed with due respect by placing wreaths at the Shaheed Minar in the city’s Shaheed Hadith Park.  City Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Zila Parishad Chairman Sheikh Harunur Rashid, Divisional Commissioner, DIG, Police Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, District Police, District Awami League unit, various political and social organization paid their homage to the Language Martyrs on the occasion.  

In Kishoreganj, District Administration, Police Super, Zila Parishad Chairman, government officials, teachers and students of Kishoreganj and over 175 organizations including Kishoreganj Press Club and Girl Guides paid tributes at town's central Shaheed Minar on the first hour of 21st February. 

Local Dailies Published Special supplements, District Administration arranged a seven days Book fair at Biam Laboratories School attested field. A discussion held at Biam Labratories School attested field with Rezwan Ahammed Toufic MP was attended as chief guest while Deputy Commissioner Md Sarwar Murshed Chowhdury in the chair.

In Chuadanga, National flag has been hoisted a half mast top of government offices, educational institutes, private buildings before sun rise. Students of high schools, primary schools, some female organizations brought out provat ferry on bare foot, arrived at Chuadanga Government College Shaheed Minar and placed wreaths there on the day at morning. 

Cultural function was held at Chuadanga Government College Shahid Minar premises at 10 am. A free medical camp was arranged on the campus of Nilmonigonj High School premises in Sadar upazila. In Magura, Local MP Saifuzzaman Shekhor, Deputy Commissioner Md Asraful Alam and police super Khan Md Rezoan paid floral wreath at Magura government HSS College Shaheed Minar.

In Bogura, district administration, police administration, Muktijoddha Sangsad and various political, social and cultural organizations paid homage to the Language Martyr by placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar in Khokon Park of the town. An eight-day book fair has also started in the district marking Amar Ekushey.
