Amar Ekushey, Int’l Mother Language Day observed

The International Mother Language Day and Amar Ekushey was observed throughout the country paying rich tribute to the language martyrs.Various political, social, cultural, and professional organisations organized seminars and cultural functions to observe the day. Our correspondents report: 

Manikganj Correspondent reports: The Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day was observed in Manikganj on Wednesday paying rich tributes to the memory of the Language Movement martyrs.

Family members of Language Martyred Rafiq Uddin Ahammed, Deputy Commissioner Rehena Akter, Police Super Golam Azad Khan, Chairman of Zila Parishad and District AL President Advocate Golam. Mohiuddin, Mayor of Manikganj municipality Md Ramjan Ali, along with other district level officials placed floral wreaths at one minute past midnight and which continued till 10.30am. People from all walks of life in bare feet toward the Central Shaheed Minar, dressed in new clothes, mostly white and black in colour, with a print of the Bangla alphabet on it, wearing a ribbon with the name and flag of Bangladesh, paid their rich tributes to language heroes by placing flowers and wreaths. 

The national flag was at half-mast all over Manikganj and as well as the mournful immortal chorus ‘Amar Bhaiyer Rokte Rangano Ekushey February, Ami Ki Bhulite Pari’ was reverberated all around in memory of the language heroes.

District Awami-League, BNP, CPB, other political parties, different socio-cultural organizations, educational institutions, professional organisations and people of all walks of life thronged the Central Shaheed Minar throughout the day to pay homage.

District and upazila Administration, different political, socio-cultural and professional organisations had chalked out their respective multifarious programmes to observe the day in a befitting manner. Those included rallies, debate, discussion, recitation of poems, staging of drama, patriotic songs, sessions of dance and mass drama. Besides, “Bhasha Shaheed Rafique Smriti Parishad” at Rafique Nagar of the district also observed the day with a four-day programmes at “Shaheed Rafiq Mukto Monch” which included milad mahfil, discussion, recitation, staging drama, placing the wreath and cultural function.

Narail Correspondent says: The Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day was observed in Narail as elsewhere in the country on Wednesday with due respect, paying rich tributes to martyrs of the historic Language Movement of 1952.

Awami League, socio-cultural and volunteer organisations and educational institutions observed the day with a renewed pledge for building a happy, prosperous and non-communal Bangladesh.

The programmes include placing wreaths at the Shaheed Minar, hoisting national flags at half-mast in all public and private buildings and bringing out mourning procession (probhat ferry), discussion, cultural and literary functions.

Narail Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Asfaqul Haque Chawdhury, Police Super Md Mehedi Hasan, Additional Police Super Tareq Al Mehedi, district Awami League President Advocate Subash Chandra Bose, AL leader and former district council chairman Advocate Shorab Hossain Biswas, Narail press club president Advocate Alomgir Siddique, former vice president Sultan Mahmood, placed wreaths Shipakala Academy premises at the altar of Shaheed Minar at zero hours on the day. Meanwhile, Narail Government Victoria College, Narail Govt. Mohila College, Lohagora Govt. Adarsha college and other educational institutions chalked out elaborate programmes marking the day.

Chuadanga Correspondent says:  The Shaheed Dibass and International Mother Language Day was observed under the auspices of district Awami League, district administration,  police department,  govt offices, semi-government offices, political parties, socio-cultural organisations,  educational institutes,  NGOs, and business organisations following placing wreaths,  hoisting half must national flag, discussion meeting,  cultural competition,  rallies with Ekushey February song  and doa mohfil on February 21.

The day programmes started to place wreaths by Solaiman Hoque Joarder Selun, MP along with Dr. Kissinger Chakma, DC, RM Foyzur Rahman, SP and other officials at 12:01 AM.

Artists of Shilpakala Academy rendered songs at the cultural function. Shishu Academy arranged cultural competition on the day. Students of different schools took part in the competition.

 District Awami League President Ehteshamul Alam and General Secretary Adv  Moazzem Hossain Babul paid floral tribute Party leaders were present at this time. Leaders of various political parties and socio-cultural organizations including Awami League paid their respects with flowers.  Officials and employees of public and private institutions paid tribute to language martyrs with flowers.

On this day, the national flag is kept at half-mast in all government and semi-government buildings and educational institutions of the division in memory of the martyrs.

On the occasion of this day, essay,painting and quiz competition was held at Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Art Gallery with the participation of school college students. Documentaries based on language movement were screened, patriotic music was performed. All mosques, temples, churches and religious places of worship organize special prayers for the souls of martyrs. Patriotic music was performed by social and cultural organizations at various road islands including Anandmohan College premises, Syed Nazrul Islam College premises, Medical College premises. Various dance programs are conducted in Upazila Shilpakala Academy with the participation of minority people.

Also, in the afternoon, a discussion meeting and cultural program was organized on the occasion of the day at the District Art Academy.

Rajbari Correspondent reports: To pay tribute to the martyrs of the great language movement, the people of Rajbari paid their respects at the central Shaheed Minar located at Shaheed Vir Muktijoddha Khushi Railway Maidan.

At 12 o'clock in the night, the programme started by offering tributes to Shaheed Minar by the district administration. Rajbari 1 Constituency Member of Parliament and former State Minister for Education Kazi Keramat Ali was present there. Later, a police team led by Superintendent of Police GM Abul Kalam Azad paid tributes at Shaheed Minar.

Among others, Rajbari district judicial officers, On behalf of Sadar Upazila Parishad, Acting Chairman Rakibul Hasan Piyal and staff officers, Civil surgeon Md Rahim Baks paid tribute on behalf of Rajbari Health Department and other officers and employees Rajbari Sadar Upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad paid tribute.

Since then, Shaheed Minar has been opened for public. After midnight, the common people pay their respects.

Later, Kazi Kermat Ali, Vice President of District Awami League and Rajbari One Constituency MP, paid tributes on behalf of District Awami League at 8 am. Former reserved women's MP Kamrun Nahar Chowdhury Lovely, former municipal mayor Mohammad Ali Chaidhuri, Municipal Awami League general secretary Safiqul Islam Sofi and all the leaders and activists of all allied organizations were present.

At that time, some public and private institutions paid tribute, but at the beginning of the morning, a large number of people flocked to the Shaheed Minar. The premises of Shaheed Minar became lively with tributes from students of various government, private, semi-government, autonomous institutions and schools and colleges.

Satkhira Correspondent writes: The International Mother Language Day and National Martyrs' Day was celebrated in Satkhira by  paying rich tributes at the Martyr's Altar with humble respect. On the occasion of the day, people from various political and socio-cultural organizations came to Shaheed Bedi at Shaheed Abdur Razzak Park in the city with wreaths to pay tribute to the martyrs. At 12:01 pm, Satkhira Sadar Constituency Member of Parliament Ashrafuzzaman Ashu, Reserved Women Member of Parliament Laila Parveen Sejuti, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, District Awami League President Hero Muktijodha AKM Fazlul Haque, General Secretary and Zilla Parishad Chairman Alhaj¦ Nazrul Islam along with officials of the District Judiciary Department, leaders of various political organizations including District Awami League, District Freedom Fighters Sangsad and leaders of social, cultural, professional and labor organizations paid their respects at the martyr's altar. Meanwhile, people thronged Satkhira Central Shaheed Minar to pay respect to the martyrs. 

The martyr altar was filled with flowers. Earlier in the evening, Shaheed Minar square was full of songs, poems, recitations and slogans. Besides, on the occasion of the day, a discussion meeting in memory of the language martyrs, a special prayer for the peace of the language martyrs and a traveling film screening were organized along with the raising of the national flag at half-mast on the occasion of the day.
