Due to the negligence of the tender evaluation committee of Jashore 250-bed general hospital, about Tk 2 crore 50 lakh has been returned in the financial year 2019-20,sources said. The money was returned as the committee could not complete the tender process in time.

For this, crisisof medical equipment will arise this year in the hospital. As a result, at least 20 lakh people of Jashore district and adjoining districts as Narail, Satkhira, Jhenidah and Magura will be deprived of emergency medical services.

Sources said, the patients of five districts are admitted in Jashore 250-bed general hospital. On average 900 to 1000 patients receive outdoor services per day. Apart from Jashore, most of the people from Narail, Satkhira, Jhenaidah and Magura districts come here for better treatment as it is known as a reputed hospital in the region.Essential Drugs Company Limited (EDCL) is a government company. They provide 75 percent of the total allocation. The remaining 25 percent is provided by contractors through tenders. To this end, MSR (Medical Surgical Requirement) for the financial year 2019-20 has been allocated for the medical services of the patients of Jashore 250-bed general hospital in the sectors of medicine, gauze, bandages, linen materials, chemical and furniture. The hospital called the first tender on April 15 this year and even after the contractors dropped the tender, the hospital canceled it on various pretexts including Corona.

Later last May, the tender was called for the second time. Due to lack of skills, the hospital authorities could not use the large amount of money for the benefit of the people of Jashore region. The rest of the money was returned to the government treasury at the end of June. Allocatedtaka 2 crore 50 lakh crore in the fiscal year 2019-20 has been returned to the government treasury as it could not supply medicines to the Jashore 250-bed hospital.

However, there is a huge shortage of medicines in the hospital throughout the year. Patients do not get valuable medicine without Paracetamol, Antacid and some antibiotic tablets, capsules, calcium and fever medicine. When patients go to the hospital for treatment, they are discharged with some low quality drugs. The rest of the valuable medicines are prescribed in the patient's prescription for purchase from outside. This situation has arisen due to the failure of the authorities to supply the MSR products and EDCL medicines allotted by the hospital.

The patients complained that they had to buy surgical gauze, bandages, and emergencymedicines from outside. At present the hospital does not have enough valuable injections, medicines and gauze bandages. Talking to patients and their relatives in the hospital's surgery, medicine, heart disease, gynecology, orthopedics, pediatrics, paying, labor wards, these wards are given as little medicine as possible from the hospital for the treatment of patients. They have to buy most of the medicines and accessories from outside.

Superintendent of Jashore 250-bed hospital Dilip Kumar Roy told that the money has been returned due to the government system. As the problem arose due to the tender at the last minute, the money had to be returned as per the rules at the end of the year.
