Guardians and local people have brought allegations of irregularities and corruption against the headmaster of Boalia Secondary School in Chitalmari upazila of the district and demanded dissolution of the controversial school managing committee.
They have filed a written complaint to eight offices against Mrinal Kanti Mistry, headmaster of the school, alleging irregularities and vote fraud.
Parents and local people said they will hold various programmes after Eid if the committee is not abolished and a new committee is not given through elections. However, there were conflicting statements from both sides in this incident.
On Friday, some guardians of Boalia Secondary School -- Moyar Molla, Al Bachchu Sheikh and Khusru Alam, former head teacher Abdus Salam, former staff Siddikur Rahman and local Hijla Union Parishad member Debashish Biswas have brought the allegations against the headmaster. The headmaster has been doing unlimited corruption and irregularities for a long time and has shown a fake election without giving any election, they alleged.
They said Banalata Gazi, 24, the daughter of Gazi Abzal Hossain, the former president of the school's managing committee, has been made the president of the school managing committee. Earlier, Gazi Abzal Hossain's wife Fatema Begum was illegally made the president of the ad hoc committee. Now steps are being taken to make his daughter the president. If Banalata Gazi is made the president without holding elections, then it can completely spoil the learning environment of the school, they added.
They have filed a written complaint to the secretary of the Ministry of Education, school inspector of Jessore Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, deputy director of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board’s Khulna Region, Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner, District Education Officer, Chitalmari Upazila Parishad Chairman, Chitalmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Chitalmari Secondary Education officer, bringing allegations against the headmaster. They said they will hold various programmes after Eid if a new committee is not formed through elections abolishing the illegal committee.
Gazi Abzal Hossain, the former president of the managing committee of Boalia Secondary School, said, “I am the former president of that school and currently a guardian member. Elections were held in the school as per rules. There was no irregularity. They have made unnecessary allegations against the headmaster.”
Head teacher Mrinal Kanti Mistry said, “I conducted the election as per the instructions of the presiding officer. If the election has been rigged, the secondary education officer knows it.”
Chitalmari Upazila Academic Supervisor and Presiding Officer of the school managing committee election Pradip Bhowmik said, “Actually everyone has the right to complain. I think this allegation is false and fabricated. After the Upazila Nirbahi Officer appointed me as the presiding officer, I followed the rules. As there was only one candidate for each post, no vote was taken. A committee with Banalata Gazi as its chairman has been submitted on the proposal of new members.”
Chitalmari Upazila Secondary Education Officer Kamrunnesa said, "I don't know anything about the election of the managing committee of Boalia Secondary School. The Upazila Nirbahi Officer has appointed the Academic Supervisor as the Presiding Officer. It was done in secret. I don't know anything about it.”
