All flights in coastal regions suspended

Vessel operations in sea, rivers also shut

Flight operation at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to remain closed from Monday 3:00 pm to Tuesday 12:00 noon due to adverse effect of cyclone Sitrang.

At the same time, three major local airports Cox's Bazar, Chittagong and Barisal in the coastal region of the country remain closed due to the already adverse effects of Cyclone Sitrang in the Bay of Bengal.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAAB) has informed this in a circular on Monday. These three airports will remain closed until weather conditions improve.

According to the notification, in view of the weather forecast, as a precautionary measure regarding the possible impact of Cyclone Sitrang, it has been decided to close the flight or landing operations of the three airports in the coastal regions from 3:00 PM to 12:00 PM on Monday, October 25, considering the overall safety.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has ordered the suspension of all types of shipping across the country due to Cyclone Sitrang.

BIWTA Public Relations Officer Mobarak Hossain Majumder confirmed the matter to media on Monday.

He said, "Shipping has been suspended due to the cyclone. At the same time, the leave of all officers and employees has been cancelled. Besides, all the ships that are in the sea have been asked not to move from there. This decision will remain in force till further instructions."

Meanwhile, Cyclone Sitrang supposed to hit this evening (Monday) said State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Enamur Rahman. He said that Cyclone Sitrang has transformed into a severe cyclone. According to the weather forecast, it will hit Monday evening. It will cross the coast Tuesday morning between 6 am and 7 am.

There is no danger of hitting India. Barguna and Patuakhali will be hit the most.

Enamur Rahman said, Cyclone Sitrang has already turned into a severe cyclone. The distance from the center to the coast is about 300 km and the periphery is about 150 km from the coast.

According to weather forecast, the front of Sitrang will hit this evening. And the main impact will be tomorrow Tuesday morning between 6 am and 7 am.
