The ruling Awami League has announcement to stage nationwide demonstrations tomorrow (Sunda) protesting  "anarchy and arson violence carried out by BNP and Jamaat."

The programme was declared by the Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader during an urgent meeting of top leaders of affiliated organisations, along with senior leaders of the party, at the central office at Bangabandhu Avenue on Saturday.

"A demonstration programme will be held across the country on Sunday from 10:00am to 5:00pm, protesting the acts of arson by BNP and Jamaat," stated Quader.
He further said that demonstrations will also be staged at every thana in both the south and north units of Dhaka metropolitan Awami League.
From a grand rally in the capital's Nayapaltan on Friday, the BNP announced sit-ins at all the entrances to the capital city Dhaka on Saturday as part of its all-out movement to oust the Awami League government and to hold the upcoming national election under a caretaker government.

The opposition party also called upon its leaders and activists not to leave the streets until the government steps down.

It should be mentioned, BNP men set several passenger buses, a police van on fire and vandalised many other vehicles in and around the capital city Dhaka on Saturday during their 'sit in programmes' putting blockades at all the entrances to the capital.

They also went into rampage and were locked into clashes with the law enforcers creating anarchy and panic among the mass people.

The police van and several vehicles were set on fire in Shyamoli area where many other vehicles were also vandalised by the aggressive BNP men.

In Matuail, at least three passenger buses were set ablaze and many others were vandalised.

According to witness, a group of BNP men brought out a procession and set a bus of Welcome Paribahan, a motorcycle and a police pick-up van near the Shishu Mela area in flames.

In Matuail, the passenger buses including one of Swadesh Paribahan and another from Tisha Coach, Additional Deputy Commissioner of DMP Media Cell KN Niyoti Roy confirmed the news.

At approximately 12:35pm on Saturday (29 July), the Fire Service received information about the incident in Matuail, confirmed Lima Khanom, control room officer of the Bangladesh  Fire Service and Civil Defence.

In response, two fire service units were immediately dispatched to the scene to douse the fire.

The Tisha coach bound for Brahmanbaria was completely engulfed in flames.

Earlier, a clash between the police and BNP activists took place in the area at around 11:30am, centring BNP's sit-in programme which was not permitted by Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

During the confrontation, both sides engaged in a chase, leading to traffic disruptions on one side of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.

The BNP is trying to forge a movement in view of ousting the government and form a caretaker government, which is unconstitutional and rejected by the Supreme Court.

As part of their movement, BNP on Friday announced the sit in programme at all the entrances to the capital Dhaka, in a bid to cut the entire capital off from rest of the country.
